OCR is only one of the many components of Adobe Acrobat, but it might be worthwhile to consider using Acrobat as your OCR tool if you frequently need to create PDF files. Adobe Acrobat 9 brings some major improvements to earlier versions of Adobe Acrobat. For example, Acrobat 9 can combine multiple types of files into a single PDF, and it expands your options for including different types of content in a PDF document.
In addition to a wide range of powerful new features, Adobe Acrobat 9 offers a fairly accurate basic OCR tool. Unlike OCR software that is designed to focus on OCR exclusively, Acrobat includes OCR only as a component, and so the quality level is somewhat lower. The OCR performs better on some fonts than others, and some documents, such as those with headers, footers, and captions, pose frequent problems.
Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional is an extremely powerful, advanced tool for building PDF files, but if your only requirement is OCR then you should probably go with a different program.
