Intelligent Character Recognition, commonly known as ICR, is a highly advanced form of OCR that extends the technology to the processing of handwritten text. Because it is so sensitive to detail, ICR requires special precautions when it is used, in order to attain the highest level of accuracy possible. While it is not yet perfect, its accuracy is impressive, and it is used in many industries. ICR is commonly used to process forms, but can be useful for other documents as well.
